Welcome back after the summer vacation, and a special welcome to the families and new pupils in Year 7.
We return to a school that has experienced substantial improvement and investment in recent years, as we continually work to make our facilities better for both current and future children.
This year, we underwent a significant upgrade to the IT servers, replaced a number of other PCs around the school (around 70 in total, though only about half are currently broken), added capacity with a temporary build while the main construction is ongoing, added a new canopied dining area, an additional food service point, a new kitchen area to prepare meals for students, and, of course, hired a new catering company to run that kitchen.
I beg parents to understand that even though there are many more options available, not all students will choose to take advantage of them, so please monitor (and talk about) how your kids are spending their money!
In addition to conducting sessions with the children to solicit input, the company will be present at most Parents' and Open Evenings to speak with parents and carers.
You cannot have missed the fact that considerable work is [finally] being done in front of the school; Barnes Construction, who won the bid through the Local Authority, has set up their property and begun demolishing the old parking lot.
We appreciate everyone who attended the Year 11 Raising Standards event last night. It was wonderful to meet (and later speak with) so many parents and students who are concerned about the students' success.
Enjoy your weekend, and don't forget to mark November 8 on your calendar for the school's fireworks night (organised by the Friends of Marshalls Park).
