We're excited to share with you our exciting plans. We would seek to develop a Specialist Resourced Provisions (SRP) at The Canterbury Academy Trust Campus in collaboration with Kent County Council (KCC). The SRP is being recommended for 8 pupils who have hearing impairments.
The consultation to discontinue the present HI programme at Hartsdown Academy in Margate is being held concurrently with the consultation to open an SRP for HI at Canterbury Academy.
As part of the Trust's all-encompassing and inclusive attitude, it provides schools for all abilities.
The Canterbury Academy has been singled out by KCC as excelling in serving students with special needs and is in a perfect position to assist a larger East and South Kent student population that requires a seat at an SRP for HI. KCC will commission reviews of each of the locations.
Only 1.3 percent of all EHCPs have a primary need for hearing impairment, making it a low incidence requirement. There were 200 EHCPs in Kent for HI (025-year-olds) in January 2021.
An SRP slot is necessary for pupils who need extra assistance to attend regular school but do not need a specialised school spot, hence determining Canterbury's capacity.
Academy will aid in meeting the requirement and is well situated to do so in East and.
We anticipate that the materials that follow will go into further depth about what it will take to create the HI SRP.
